Teaching

“Jazz inherently embraces a world view and can raise the awareness of the player musically, culturally, socially, politically, and humanely. My charge as a teacher is to help the student absorb this enduring form of expression and to find their own voice as an improvisational soloist and ensemble player.” Jim Ridl

Jim Ridl is currently on the faculty at New York Jazz Workshop and The City College of New York, and has maintained a private studio for over 30 years, now both online and in person. He was Visiting Jazz Artist at Princeton University, where he also directed several ensembles, and was the Art Tatum Memorial Scholarship Artist at the University of Toledo. He has conducted master classes and subbed for colleagues at colleges and universities, including New York University, City College of New York, Rutgers University, Rowan University, Temple University and William Paterson University. Jim has toured with the US State Department American Music Abroad program, performing and offering workshops in Asia-Pacific, Russia, South Korea, China, the Phiippines, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Slovania and Malta.
